What is PETP?

A Semi-Crystalline Engineering Plastic for Stable, Wear-Resistant Parts

PETP is the common engineering-plastics designation for polyethylene terephthalate. Its semi-crystalline structure gives stock shapes a useful balance of stiffness, tensile strength, dimensional control and machinability.

PETP is considered for guides, wear components, rollers, electrical parts, fixtures and food-processing equipment where low moisture uptake and controlled friction are important. The exact grade, color, crystallinity and manufacturing route can change the result.

Standard PETP should not be treated as a universal hot-water or high-temperature replacement. Confirm the real temperature, fluid, load, tolerance and required documents against the supplied grade TDS before production release.

PETP is selected for rigid, dimensionally controlled components that need more stiffness than many general-purpose plastics.

Choose the Material That Matches the Dominant Requirement

No engineering polymer is universally better. Compare the exact grades at the operating temperature, load, speed, fluid, geometry and documentation requirement.

Choose PETP when

Stiffness, low moisture uptake, wear control and machinable stock are the dominant requirements at a moderate service temperature.

Consider POM when

Low friction, efficient machining and a cost-sensitive design are more important than PETP’s stiffness and dimensional profile.

Consider PA when

Higher toughness or impact absorption is needed and the design can accommodate moisture-related changes in dimensions and properties.

Consider PEEK when

Higher temperature capability, chemical resistance or wear-focused performance is required beyond the selected PETP grade’s range.

Consider PPSU when

Impact toughness, hot-water or repeated steam exposure is the primary requirement and the selected PPSU grade provides the necessary documents.

What is PETP material?
PETP, or polyethylene terephthalate, is a semi-crystalline engineering thermoplastic used for rigid, dimensionally controlled and wear-exposed components in suitable service conditions.
Which PETP stock shapes are available?

Is PETP suitable for hot water or continuous high temperature?
Do not apply one universal temperature limit to every PETP grade. Hot-water exposure, continuous temperature, load, section size and exposure time must be checked against the exact grade TDS and the finished-part design.
When should I choose PETP instead of POM or PA?
PETP can be considered when stiffness, dimensional control, low moisture uptake and wear behavior are important at a moderate service temperature. Compare the exact grades when friction, toughness, moisture or cost is the dominant requirement.
Can PETP be used for food-contact components?
A PETP family name alone does not establish food-contact approval. Request the declaration for the exact grade, color, stock form and destination market, then review the cleaning cycle and finished-part process.
Can PETP rods, sheets or tubes be machined?
PETP stock shapes can be used as starting material for drawing-based machining when the allowance, tooling, machining sequence, final tolerance and inspection condition are controlled. Send the drawing and service conditions for a stock-size review.
What information is needed for a PETP quotation?
